Youtube video

Quick video of overview of inspiration, also testing youtube.

Materiality:

Patricia Piccinini has used materials that make 'The Young Family' look fleshy and realistic, all wrinkles and imperfections visible. Piccinini has used silicone and acrylic to sculpt such fleshy bodies, using leather presumably to achieve the taut and tough looking skin and creases. Human hair has even been used, not only adding to the realistic approach but also to the concept questioning human life and genetics. She works alongside others of many different professions, for example modelers, computer programmers and seamstressers to enable her to use the best materials for her concept and to make the most of them. A mix of organic and artificial materials is used, so agreeing with the concept and artwork examining genetic clones and human life.

'The Arrangement' is purely carved out of timber using traditional hand skills. Such a creation develops an intimacy between the work and the artist, also allowing for the most intricate designs as well the visibility of and faults through the nakedness of the wood. Swallow has used a pure materials, closely reflecting the ideas of pure evil and inhibition as seen in his sculpture through the symbolism of the snakes inside a helmet, that usually protects a person's mind and head. The timber is left uncured, further resembling natural qualities and intimacy between the work and the artist, or even the audience.
