Electroliquid Aggregation

Why does the universe bother to exist at all? Is it that unified theory and problem solving abilities are so irresistable that they cause its existence? Or is it a creator who needs to fabricate harmony within nature?

First attempt at Unreal Tournament Editor 2004

Here are two images from the unreal editor. It took me a while to figure it out, but I am getting used to it, possibly quicker than sketchup..

This layout is based on the following drawing from a Stephen Hawking quote.

The Axonometrics

The following axonometric drawings are based on the quote by Stephen Hawking. The main ideas from this quote I thought were: void spaces, cyclical structures, time, connection and contemplation.

The next drawings are based on Jane Goodall's quote, the main ideas being: harmony, unity and connection.

EXP 2 Clients

Jane Goodall:
"We can use our problem-solving abilities, our brains, and, joining hands around the world, find ways to live that are in harmony with nature."

Jane Goodall Institute 2008, accessed 15th April 2008,

Florence Nightingale:
"Few people are aware that Nightingale was a trailblazing social activist and visionary whose ideas on such matters as public health and sanitation, holistic health, and women's place in society were decades ahead of their time."

Dossey, BM 2000, Florence Nightingale: mystic, visionary, healer, Springhouse Corp, Oxford.

Stephen Hawking:
"Why does the universe go to all the bother of existing? Is the unified theory so compelling that is brings about its own existence? Or does it need a creator, and if so does he have any other effect on the universe? And who created him?"

FileFront

I'm not sure if all my model is in the 3D warehouse, so I uploaded it onto filefront, like Russell said.. So here is the link

http://hosted.filefront.com/DainaNL/

3D Warehouse

HURRAH!! I think my model did actually upload to the 3D warehouse yesterday and I didn't realise!!

3D Warehouse

After trying for hours and hours, my model will not load to the 3D warehouse... I even left it to load overnight and it still will not. I did, however, save it somehow, I think on google earth as "Daina Labutis ARCH 1101 EXP 1 2008". Hopefully it can be accessed..!

Youtube video

Quick video of overview of inspiration, also testing youtube.

Materiality:

Patricia Piccinini has used materials that make 'The Young Family' look fleshy and realistic, all wrinkles and imperfections visible. Piccinini has used silicone and acrylic to sculpt such fleshy bodies, using leather presumably to achieve the taut and tough looking skin and creases. Human hair has even been used, not only adding to the realistic approach but also to the concept questioning human life and genetics. She works alongside others of many different professions, for example modelers, computer programmers and seamstressers to enable her to use the best materials for her concept and to make the most of them. A mix of organic and artificial materials is used, so agreeing with the concept and artwork examining genetic clones and human life.

'The Arrangement' is purely carved out of timber using traditional hand skills. Such a creation develops an intimacy between the work and the artist, also allowing for the most intricate designs as well the visibility of and faults through the nakedness of the wood. Swallow has used a pure materials, closely reflecting the ideas of pure evil and inhibition as seen in his sculpture through the symbolism of the snakes inside a helmet, that usually protects a person's mind and head. The timber is left uncured, further resembling natural qualities and intimacy between the work and the artist, or even the audience.

First sketchup model now with stairs!

This is my first sketchup model, now with stairs to the exhibition level from both above and below.. I made the stairs separately then imported them into this file.. It is in x-ray view so the textures are not fully visible. I may swap my lower set of stairs for a set I made in my other model as they are so plain and don't really fit with the whole atmosphere that the rest contains.

Second design on Sketchup with stairs

Here is my second design on Sketch up.. I am struggling a little bit still but slowly learning tricks! This design also includes my stairs going up and down into the studios from the 'exhibition space. I especially struggle with the internal parts of my designs, and making shapes fit doesn't seem to always work for me...

This is based on the following drawing:

Above ground: Bestial
Below ground: Omen

Ideas for Stairs

Here are some drawings I did for stair designs:

Cross section of a set of stairs by Carlo Scarpa

This is a model of a stair case by Carlo Scarpa. I used this to draw my two cross-sections below:

My First Sketchup now with an underground level...

I adapted my first sketchup model, enlarging it and changing a few aspects, including adding the floor below ground which I had struggled with last time. I am slowly getting the hang of sketchup but it is taking lots of time to figure fiddly things out..!
